Want to receive every Advisor-link email but looking for a way to declutter your inbox?

Another option is to create a rule in Outlook that can automatically move Advisor-link emails into a folder instead of your inbox.

  1. In Outlook, select File > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule.
  2. Under Step 1: Select a template > Move messages from someone to a folder.
  3. Under Step 2: Edit the rule description > click on people or public group > type in advisor-link@g-groups.wisc.edu > click on specified > select the folder you’d like the email to be sent to.

  • Proofread! Avoid sending emails with errors, missing attachments, and emailing multiple times about the same information.
  • Avoid emails with large attachments like flyers and presentations, when possible. Instead, link to a website or shared folder.
  • If you are sharing information ultimately intended for students, write your email content so it addresses a student audience, not a staff audience. This way, staff are more easily able to copy and share your information with their students.
  • Make your content accessible! Learn more about email accessibility
      • Use plain language and avoid acronyms
      • Use descriptive link text
      • Include alternative text for images and graphics
  • Use clear, professional subject lines
  • Do not “reply all” if your message is intended for just the sender of the original email
